With a storied history in Southern California and long referred to as “The Little league of Skateboarding”, CASL has now grown into a National youth sports league with a National Championship. We provide a spot where skaters can find other skaters, feel valued and part of the skateboard community, and make new friends.
Competitions are divided into the 3 main categories of competitive skateboarding:
STREET
PARK
VERT
Within those categories, we hold separate competitions for different age groups and skill levels:
7 & UNDER
8-11
12-15
16 & OVER
GIRLS
OPEN ADVANCED
GIRLS OPEN ADVANCED
It should also be noted that we hold a separate Girls' group as well as Girls Open Advanced in each separate category. However, girls are not required to skate in the Girl's group. They can choose to skate in an age group, i.e. 7 & Under.
CASL uses a panel of 3 judges and skaters are scored on a scale of 0 to 100.
In most categories, we start with a base score of 70.
Skaters get two 45-second runs in Vert/Bowl and Park/MiniRamp, and two 1-minute runs in Street.
The score for each run will be the average of the scores reported by the 3 different judges.
We take the best score of a skater’s two runs to determine placing
In the event of a tie, we look at the skater's other score. If there is still a tie and it is for an award position, we will have a skate-off, which is 1 additional run each.
Factors that effect a skater's score:
· Number of different tricks landed
· Degree of difficulty of each trick
· Use of course/obstacles
· Consistency (landing all tricks)
· Style
· Amplitude
· Speed
· Creativity
· Risk-taking
Open Advanced Categories
Our Girls open advanced and Open Advanced categories are judged to more closely resemble the Olympic format.
· We still use 3 judges. Skaters are scored on a true 0 to 100 scale.
· In Park and Vert – Each skater gets three 45-second runs. If you fall your run is over. We still take the best run for placement
· In Street – Each skater gets two 1-minute runs and five single trick attempts. We take the best run and the two highest scored single tricks for a score out of 300.
